Sometimes people talk about "running out of oil", but the world will never completely run out of oil. There will always be some oil remaining somewhere that can be scavenged from old fields, reclaimed from tar sands or stripped from oil shale.

There is, however, a limit to how fast we can pull oil out of the ground. Peak Oil will occur when the world hits this peak in production – and this will likely happen soon!

Thanks to Wikileaks, we now have an indication that the US government believes that Saudi Arabia doesn’t have as much oil left as they are leading the world to believe, and that worldwide peak oil will arrive by 2012.

The former president of Shell Oil predicts that gas will cost $5 a gallon in 2012.

I am still sticking with $7 per gallon. It won’t be long until we will see who is right!

Some analysts think we are close to world Peak Oil production.Peak oil was predicted to become a reality in 2011 on the basis that the world’s major oil fields were being depleted at a rate of 4,5% a year. The production decline rates of existing fields are an important part of the equation for when Peak Oil happens.

This theory is very interesting. So, according to this, there will be a peak in 2012 again. We will have to wait till this 2010 for this inflation to get down to a reasonable level. I think Georjetset really has a point here if we start learning from these mistakes and make our some changes in our attitude and lifestyle, everything can be handled pretty easily and life will be lot more easy.

I have to wonder why this isn’t front page news? Seems to me like people need to start weening themselves off of (myself included) hmmm, EVERYTHING! and start learning how to talk to neighbors, share, grow food, walk, and just living the good life again with a closer relationship to the Earth. Life will be good again…just hope we make it through the transition ;o)

Here is an analysis that puts peak oil at 2008. However, due to the economic slowdown, I still think "No Gas" signs won’t be seen until 2012.
