Strange Time

It is weird that a few weeks ago we were looking forward to our vacation, and now we are looking back on it. And we will never be able to experience any of this vacation ever again, except through our memories. This seems very strange to me.
What if you went into a museum where they had many beautiful paintings, but they were all covered with a black cloth. The cloth would have a narrow slit and when you walked up to the painting, the cloth would scroll up slowly so you could see a narrow, moving band of the painting. But you could never see the entire thing so you would need to stitch these slices together in your mind to try and figure out what the painting really looks like. In this strange museum, would you ever be able to fully comprehend and experience any of the paintings?
Yet this is the way we lead our lives, being able to experience only a small, moving slice of time and then trying to make sense of everything by stitching together our memories of what happened in the past. But we can never revisit any of these time slices or see our lives as a whole and complete experience. What a strange way to live!
